Information
on Coaches:
Allyn Martinez comes to us from
Copperfield Juniors. She will be assisting under Susan Adcock and we
look forward to giving her the opportunity to learn from a great
coach and go on to have our own Kaboom team in the near future!
Andres
Hurtado is an avid
player and also Patty's husband.
Andres has a great rapport with the girls. He is able to
help excite them and keep things fun. He also has intense
knowledge of the game and what it takes to be successful.
Cary
Stengler coaches the Mini-Boomers.
Cary enjoyed many honors and accomplishments while playing at
Abilene Christian. She currently coaches at Cy Falls
High School and has over 12 years of experience coaching club.
Claudia Taylor returns for her 2nd
year at Kaboom. Claudia previously coached for Texas Elite here
in Houston. Claudia has good knowledge of all aspects of
the game.
Elaine
Crane comes to
us from Dayton, Ohio where she ran a very successful juniors
program called Dayton Juniors. After assisting daughter,
Lauren Viney, last year some, Elaine decided she would like to
return to coaching. We are so excited to have Elaine
join our program. She will have great things to teach us
all!
Emily
James is Julee's
sister and comes to us from California.
Emily played two
years at Citrus College (CA). As a freshman, was named to 2nd
team All-Conference and as a Sophomore, she was named to 1st
team All-Conference. Emily was the team captain and the
recipient of the Coaches' Award both seasons. She transferred
from Citrus College leading the state holding the record for
the most assists and went on to play at the University of La
Verne (CA). They went undefeated in conference her Junior and
Senior year and made it to the Regional Championships both
seasons. Emily will be assisting Shafonia this year and
hopefully taking her own team the following season.
Gladys
Waldera Adams
will be returning to
Kaboom this season. Gladys is a former 2 time Kenyan
Olympian and collegiate coach. Gladys brings in depth
knowledge of the game and a reserved yet very effective
coaching style. We are so glad to welcome her back!
Jenni Skopal will be assisting Julee James this season
with our top 16s. Jenni is a former teammate of Julee and
Patty at Incarnate Word. Jenni brings great knowledge of
the game and a superior understanding of what it takes to get
girls to the next level.
Julee
James Briscoe has coached both
club ball and high school. She is a former collegiate
player from Incarnate Word. Julee is a remarkable coach
and has an amazing rapport with the girls! Julee still
currently plays on the women's Kaboom USAV team.
Kari Kirkpatrick came
to us us from Copperfield Juniors and was assistant coach on
Kaboom's first Junior Olympic qualifying team. Kari brings
great enthusiasm to the club as well. She has a great
rapport with the girls and a good way of putting things in
easy to understand language for them!
Katie Karlovitz is a former
Kaboom player. We are very excited to have her helping
with the Boomers and training under Shafonia assisting the
12s. Hopefully, Katie will return after college to
coach her own Kaboom team down the road!
Katie
Seawright head coached Kaboom's first Junior Olympic
qualifying team!!! Katie is an avid player
too and played college at Colorado Christian.
She has great knowledge of the game and has also
coached several other successful club teams in years past. We
feel very blessed to have her coaching for us!
Lacey
Tapp
will be co-coaching the
13s this season. Lacey has coached for KVA previously.
Lacey has a good rapport with the girls and helping to
understand what exactly is expected of them. We are very happy
to be welcoming Lacey to the family.
Lauren Flores is a recent college grad who currently
coaches at Logos Prep School. Lauren has played for
approximately 10 years, including playing on scholarship at
Galveston College. We look forward to Lauren having a
long, successful career at Kaboom.
Lauren Viney
relocated to Houston last year from Ohio where she was a successful
part of the Dayton Jrs program. Lauren also assisted at
Valley City State University in 07-08 season and Wright State
University previously before coming to Houston. She also
coached a successful boys team with Air City and assisted the
boys program at Centerville High School who placed 4th in State
in 2007. Lauren played college ball at Tennessee Tech and
then transferred to Eastern Michigan where she set the single
assist record in 2003.
Luis
Perez comes to
us from KYV and the YMCA. He has
several years experience and good positive attitude and
demeanor with the girls. We are excited to welcome him
to the Kaboom coaching family this season.
Misty Towles is joining Kaboom
this season. Misty is Shafonia's cousin. She
currently coaches at College Park High School. Misty has a
very similar style to Shafonia - stern but fun. We are
elated to have her join the family.
Patty
Hurtado (Hinojosa) has coached club ball for several years and is
still an avid player as well. Patty has a great rapport
with the girls and a remarkable way of correcting fundamental
issues. Patty played collegiate ball at Laredo Community
College and then Incarnate Word.
Shafonia
Sumrall is founder of the club. Shafonia grew
up in the area attending Spring Woods and Northbrook High
Schools and also played club here in the area the first two
years that Texas Elite existed. Shafonia did not play in
college due to injuries, but does currently run and play on
the women's Kaboom USAV team thanks to shoulder reconstruction
and a couple knee surgeries. Shafonia has coached club
for 13 years now, including time at Texas Elite, Spike
Sport and a small club that was short lived in Tulsa, OK.
Shannon McInnis joins
us to coach the Boomers this season. Shannon enjoyed
her collegiate career at Houston Baptist University as well.
Shannon brings a lot of coaching experience to the
organization and has enjoyed success coaching both girls and
boys!
Stacie Zollars
is a former player of
Shafonia's. Stacie has also coached with the Cy Fair
Sports Association. This past season, Stacie did a
great job with the Boomers. Stacie will either be
assisting or taking her own team this season depending upon
her school schedule.
Susan Luce (Adcock) has coached both club ball and school ball
for several years. Susan is a great coach who is very good
at correcting and enhancing fundamentals. Susan still
plays on the women's Kaboom USAV team.
Sydney
Bacon is a former player of Shafonia's. Sydney is
currently studying to be a teacher and coach so she will
working as a floating coach this season while she finisher her
degree at school in Galveston.
We
are excited to have them all and are looking forward to a
remarkable season!
