Club Kaboom aids Hurricane Ike victims, by Shanna Manders
Club Kaboom held a Donation Drive on September 27, 2008 for all of the people in Oak Island and surrounding communities that lost everything. Club Kaboom Volleyball Club is owned and operated by Shafonia Bolanos. It is a Non-Profit Organization that works with Volleyball players from different areas in hopes of a Scholarship upon graduation. Her first year in business, Shafonia received scholarships for five out of seven girls and each year since has been similar. The Club has been in business for four years now.
The drive consisted of clothing (men’s, women’s, teen’s, children and baby), dry goods, towels, blankets, food, water, bathing necessities and many, many more items. Club Kaboom had a sixteen-foot U-haul truck completely full when the day was over. Everything was unloaded at the Double Bayou Community Center, hours of operation are Monday thru Saturday from 2:00 til 6:00.
We would like to thank Shafonia and Club Kaboom (girls and parents) for all of their help working the drive and the donations. |

info: FEMA trailers are now
supposed to be furnished, so no
additional donations are needed
at this time. Plan to do
something for Christmas for the
residents like adopting a family
per team or the like.
